About Easter Island
The easternmost outpost of the Polynesian island world, the remote volcanic Easter Island is known the world over for its distinctive Moai statues, carved from rock and averaging 4m tall and shaped like a giant head and torso. The island is actually a Chilean territory, also known as Rapa Nui, and covers approximately 64 square miles. Since its re-discovery by Europeans in 1722, the island’s economy is based largely on tourism where guests can hire cars, motorcycles and mountain bikes for any exploration desires.
