Marella Cruises’ ship Marella Discovery 2 shared a friendly smile of support after dropping its final few passengers off in Montego Bay, Jamaica.
The ship completed the smile, which was created by outlining the shape in the waves, while carrying out routine manoeuvres before anchoring in Montego Bay, Jamaica, where it waits to set sail again.
The smile measures at 12 nautical miles high, and 16 nautical miles wide.
Captain of Marella Discovery 2, Jason Ikiadis, said: “Myself, first officer Cosmin and our bridge team worked together to trace the Tui smile as we wanted to do something that would make both our customers and teams smile as a thank you for supporting us during these unprecedented times.
“We’ll be ready and waiting to set sail with our customers soon.”
Marella Cruises has cancelled sailings until 28 March 2020. Other cruise lines have also been trying to add smiles to people’s faces.
Princess Cruises has promised it will be back after suspending its sailings on all ships, with an uplifting message lighting up one of its ships.
Sky Princess, one of the 18 ships in the line’s fleet, showed a #WeWillBeBack message via its balcony cabins.
Last week, Princess Cruises announced it was voluntarily pausing its global operations for 60 days in response to the circumstances evolving from the global spread of coronavirus, thereby following in the footsteps of many cruise lines that have also suspended sailings.
