Azamara launches new range of National Geographic day tours

National Geographic Azamara

Azamara has partnered with National Geographic to introduce a new range of shoreside excursions.

The small-ship cruise line will offer nine new day tours in partnership with the environmental TV network beginning this month.

In partnership with Intercruises Shoreside and Port Services, the cruise ground handler which collaborates with National Geographic to operate these experiences, each tour is led by trained guides and follows the criteria of the Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC).

“Azamara guests are constantly seeking new ways to explore different cultures and destinations through educational and immersive travel,” said Azamara head of land product development and operations Paul Chapple.

“Intercruises’ trusted service and reliability paired with National Geographic’s legacy and global expertise helps us provide our guests with exclusive access to hands-on cultural experiences, adventures steeped in expertise, and meaningful explorations.”

National Geographic tours to immerse Azamara guests ‘even further’

The new itineraries include the Finding a New Home in Amsterdam, From Struggle to Resilience tour, which takes guests through the Dutch capital via the streets and canals while hearing first-hand stories of the city’s immigrants and refugees.

The guided tour will “paint a vivid picture” of their experience and community in Amsterdam, concluding with a meal prepared by chefs from around the world.

Elsewhere, the Sancocho, from Monk’s Legacy to National Delight excursion will see travellers uncover the legacy behind the Dominican Republic’s gastronomy as they participate in a hands-on cooking class led by a local chef.

The Cozumel’s Coral Reef Ecosystem itinerary is hosted by a marine biologist and founding partner of the Cozumel Coral Restoration Programme, who will take guests on an educational tour through the coral reefs and mangroves of Cozumel.

It comes after the line named former Celebrity Cruises SVP of sales, trade support and services for the Americas Dondra Ritzenthaler as its new chief executive.
