Avalon Waterways will launch a new-build ship on the Douro in 2024.
The introduction of the 102-guest Avalon Alegria will mark the line’s debut on the river.
As with other ships in the fleet, it will feature Panorama Suites (37 in total), as well as 14 Deluxe Staterooms, as well as a pool.
The ship will sail a new eight-day cruise that begins and ends in Porto, including the line’s Classic, Discovery and Active shore excursions.
Port of calls will include Porto Antigo, Pinhão and Barca d’Alva, in Portugal.
The ‘perfect opportunity’ for Avalon Waterways
Avalon Waterways UK sales and marketing director said: “We’ve been waiting for the perfect opportunity to add Portugal to our robust portfolio and that day has finally arrived.
“Inviting our guests to sail the Douro for the first time, we’re bringing the Suite Ships of Avalon [and] the grandest views in cruising to southwestern Europe. We couldn’t be more excited.”
In April, Avalon Waterways christened Avalon View in a ceremony in Bratislava, Slovakia.
