Amadeus ‘aims to protect’ with new conservation project

Amadeus

Amadeus River Cruises has launched a new conservation project in a bid to protect local communities and waterways

The Amadeus Smiles Project centres around two core themes: river habitat conservation and European cultural heritage preservation.

The first focuses on the safeguarding of environments that cruises traverse by implementing protocols to protect riverbanks, reduce pollution, and restore habitats.

The line has partnered with Rewilding Europe to support the resurgence of the dalmatian pelican, Djerdap National Park to protect its landscapes and biodiversity, and Kopački Rit to focus on sustainable forest management.

Meanwhile, to protect Europe’s art, architecture, traditions, and stories, the company is supporting conservation projects, restoring historical sites, and promoting local crafts and traditions.

Projects Amadeus is partnering with Lepenski Vir, an archaeological site the firm plans to add to cruise itineraries while preserving its history, the Glasmuseum Wertheim and the Nederlands Openluchtmuseum.

Andrew Iwasyszyn, managing director of Amadeus River Cruises UK, said: “Our journeys are about more than traversing rivers and enjoying stunning landscapes; they’re about forging meaningful connections with the environments we explore and the communities we encounter.

“With this in mind, we are thrilled to launch our new charity initiative, the Amadeus Smile Projects. Whether we’re protecting delicate ecosystems or nurturing Europe’s cultural treasures, our mission is clear: to leave a lasting legacy that embodies the spirit of our voyages.”

Amadeus River Cruises was recently awarded the Green Award for its continued outstanding performance in safety and environmental standards.
