Wave Awards receive record submission numbers, as countdown to the ceremony begins

Wave Awards receive record submission numbers

The annual Wave Awards, which celebrate excellence and innovation in the cruise sector, have received a record number of entries for the 2022 edition.

The ‘Oscars of cruising’ – which this year is being run in partnership with Fred Olsen Cruise Lines – recognise cruise lines, travel agents, tourist boards and ports from both a trade and consumer perspective.

The awards, which launched nine years ago, are organised and produced by Real Response Media, which publishes Cruise Trade News and World of Cruising magazines and their websites.

Most awards require cruise lines and suppliers to self-nominate and this year, 12 per cent more applicants have made a submission compared to the previous highest annual entries.

They have now been judged based on the rigorous assessment of an esteemed panel of cruise travel bosses and experts.

In addition, there are separate categories that enable the public to select their favourite cruise lines.

To date, votes are 33 per cent up on the previous most popular year. Nominations for the shortlist are now closed and second round voting starts shortly via the Wave Awards website.

All votes are collated and verified by an independent third party.

Wave Awards a ‘night not to be missed’

Real Response Media CEO Chris Pitchford said: “As the cruise industry’s outstanding recovery continues, we’re thrilled to see this positive momentum reflected in the participation and interest levels for the Wave Awards.

“With all major and upcoming brands from across the sector represented, and a glittering ceremony later this year to mark the winners, the ‘Oscars of cruising’ are a night not to be missed.”

The Wave Awards will be held at the Pan Pacific London hotel on 16 November 2022. To book a table, go to www.thewaveawards.com/book-tickets

The 2022 edition is sponsored by some of the world’s leading cruise lines and travel companies, including the likes of Royal Caribbean International, Seabourn, and Times Travel.

Royal Caribbean sales director UK, Ireland & Spain Stuart Byron said: “The innovative approach to the event is aligned with our own style and we appreciate that the awards take on board both agent and consumer feedback.

“This year’s award sponsorship enables us to bring a touch of Royal magic to the after-party celebrations and we are looking forward to seeing our friends and colleagues from across the industry.”
