Viking has taken delivery of its newest ocean ship, Viking Vesta, during a ceremony at Fincantieri’s shipyard in Ancona, Italy
The ship has 499 staterooms accommodating 998 guests, and will spend its inaugural season sailing in Northern Europe and the Mediterranean.
“We are proud to welcome Vesta to our fleet of elegant, small sister ships,” said Torstein Hagen, chair and CEO.
“As we continue to expand around the world, we are pleased to offer curious travellers new options for exploring in Viking comfort. We look forward to welcoming guests on board Vesta during her inaugural season and in the years to come.”
Viking and Fincantieri also announced details of Viking Libra, a hydrogen powered vessel which, when it launches, will be capable of producing zero emissions.
Libra will operate a propulsion system based partially on liquefied hydrogen and fuel cells and is set to be delivered in late 2026.
Currently under construction and scheduled for delivery in 2027, Viking Astrea, will also be hydrogen powered. Vesta has been designed with this feature in mind and can be retrofitted to incorporate these new technologies as they become available.
Based on the company’s orderbook, the company expects to take delivery of 27 additional river ships by 2028 and 10 additional ocean ships by 2031. With these orders, the line will have 111 river ships in 2028 and 23 ocean and expedition ships in 2031.
