The River Cruise Line has introduced two new itineraries for autumn this year, exploring the rivers and waterways of France and the canals of Venice.
Â
France: Take a trip along the Dordogne, Gironde and Garonne rivers, on a round-trip from the port city of Bordeaux. The towns along these rivers are steeped in Medieval history and as well as visits to Blaye, Libourne and Bourg, there is an opportunity to explore Saint-Emilion, a fortified town surrounded by vineyards; and the winegrowing town of Pauillac, where an optional excursion to Médoc provides a chance to sample the region’s renowned red wine. Travelling on-board the four star ms Princesse d’Aquitaine, the route takes in the Gironde estuary with views of troglodyte houses, fishermen’s huts and steep cliffs surrounding the port of Meschers-sur-Gironde. This six-day trip costs from £899 per person and departs on September 30.
Â
Venice: The new Venice & the Lagoon Islands trip explores the capital of Italy’s Veneto region, offering an insight into some of the age-old traditions of Venetian life. All excursions are included, with a chance to see the construction of a handcrafted gondola; visit Doge’s Palace, which served as the residence of the ruler of Venice for over 1,000 years and learn about the masks which have served as a symbol of the city for centuries. The four star ms Michelangelo cruises the peaceful lagoon, with stops at the islands of Murano and Burano, as well as the ancient city of Padua to see the fine architecture, arcaded streets and pretty parks. This five-day trip costs from £749 per person and departs on 12th October.
