Luxury line Silversea announced a refurbishment of its entire fleet after taking delivery of its €300 million flagship Silver Muse – its first new-build in seven years.

Describing it as ‘muse-isation’, Silversea executive chairman Manfredi Lefebvre d’Ovidio said the other vessels in the all-suite nine-strong fleet would be upgraded to reach the new standards set by the 596-passenger Silver Muse. He also revealed the option to build three more sister ships to Silver Muse and fulfil his father’s dream to have 12 vessels in the family-owned line. If the plan goes ahead the ships will be delivered in 2020, 2021 and 2023.

He announced the news at a press conference on board Silver Muse’s shakedown cruise from Genoa to Barcelona where guests included travel agents and trade partners.

“Silver Muse has set a benchmark for our fleet and it is the first, we hope, in a series of four ships. We are now going to adapt the Silver Muse concept across the entire fleet with a ‘muse-ification’ which will include similar colour schemes and design details. The first will be Silversea Explorer which goes into dry dock in less than a month.”

Silver Muse has five stateroom categories and offers the highest number of large suites – Silver, Royal, Grand and Owner’s – in the fleet, and the largest number of connecting suites for families and groups of friends.

Staterooms range from the 387 square feet Superior Veranda suite to the 1,000 square  feet Owner’s Suite, named Balsorano, from the chairman’s full name, di Balsorano de Clunieres. The suite contains personal items belonging to the family including books, sculptures, works of art and family photographs.

Silver Muse also offers a total of eight dining venues, the highest number of a ship of its size. Speciality venues carrying a cover charge include the fine French dining in the Relais & Chateau La Dame, which replaces Le Champagne found on other ships, and Kaiseki, which is a sushi bar by day and a Japanese restaurant in the evening. Included venues include the main buffet restaurant, La Terrazza, which reflects the line’s Italian heritage at evening dinner, and the casual al fresco Spaccanapoli pizzeria. As well as being available in suites, the 24-hour room service menu can also be served in public areas of the ship when other dining venues are closed.

In one of the agent presentations Silversea’s chief marketing officer Barbara Muckermann said the line was targeting baby boomers, passengers born between 1946 and 1964, who were looking for authentic experiences.

Showcasing the stylish, muted interiors of Silver Muse and a fleet-wide itinerary featured 761 destinations in 2017, she said: “We are not interested in having ostentatious glass in the elevator but the glass of your camera in front of a penguin. Our future lies with the baby boomers who, for example, control 68% of the wealth, we are not chasing after millennials who do not have the money to afford us.”

On the shakedown Silversea also confirmed the godmother to Silver Muse will be Constanza Lefebvre, the teenage daughter of the chairman. The christening ceremony will take place on April 19 in Monaco.

During its maiden year Silver Muse will sail on seven- to 19-day sailings in Europe, North America, the Caribbean and South America. The vessel will visit Asia and the Middle East in 2018.
