Disney and Royal Caribbean cruises have had to change their itineraries in the wake of the tropical storm.
Cruise lines sailing to the Caribbean have been forced to rethink their Caribbean cruise routes this week to avoid being hit by Tropical Storm Dorian. Royal Caribbean has had to reroute three of its ships, including Allure of the Seas, Harmony of the Seas and Symphony of the Seas, from eastern and western Caribbean.
Harmony of the Seas, which was meant to follow its eastern Caribbean cruise itinerary when it set sail from Port Canavarel on 25 August, has instead switched to a western Caribbean sailing.
It will now stop at the cruise line’s private island Perfect Day at CocoCay, Cozumel (Mexico) Roatan (Honduras) and Costa Maya (Mexico). The ship is scheduled to return to Port Canaveral on 1 September 2019.
Symphony of the Seas has also switched to a western Caribbean itinerary and will sail to Perfect Day at CocoCay, Cozumel, Roatan and Costa Maya.
Finally, Allure of the Seas, which recently underwent a $165 million transformation, has been diverted from its usual eastern Caribbean itinerary after setting sail from Fort Lauderdale and will instead follow an eastern Caribbean route. Stops include Labadee, San Juan and Perfect Day at CocoCay.
Director of corporate reputation for Royal Caribbean Cruises, Melissa Charbonneau, has commented how they changes were made to ensure the safety of passengers on board.
“We continue to monitor the path of Tropical Storm Dorian and potential impact to our vessels, and will communicate any scheduling changes to our guests,” she said in an official statement from the cruise line.
Meanwhile, other cruise lines have also begun to modify their itineraries following the weather news. Disney Cruise line, for instance, has changed the itinerary of its Port Canaveral-based Disney Fantasy, from an eastern Caribbean to a western Caribbean route.
