Explora Journeys has confirmed plans to build a fleet of river cruise ships
The luxury line, which is part of the MSC Group, has signed a Letter of Intent with Dutch shipbuilder Den Breejen Shipyard for the construction of its first river ships, which it said will sail in Europe.
No details have yet been shared on how many ships are on order, what the design will be, delivery schedules or itineraries, but the line has said it will open sales in 2027.
A spokesperson said: "Since launching, Explora Journeys has sought to change the way people experience ocean travel through its Ocean State of Mind philosophy, combining the freedom and discovery of travelling by sea with the elegance and refinement of European hospitality and design.
"The brand now intends to bring that same approach to Europe's most iconic rivers."
The announcement comes just two months after Explora Journeys launched its third ocean cruise ship, Explora III.
Explora Journeys is the latest line to announce plans to debut in the river cruise market, following in the steps of Celebrity Cruises, which has 20 river cruise ships on order.
