About Salamanca
Honey-coloured Salamanca is Spain’s oldest university town and all Douro cruises feature a day trip over the border to pay a visit.
The grand square leads to the old and new cathedrals, which are joined together, and the ornate old university building where it’s fun trying to spot the tiny stone frog, which has become the symbol of Salamanca, hidden in the facade. Lunches organised by the cruise lines often include a flamenco display and afterwards there is free time to wander around the city at leisure.
