CLIA UK MD Andy Harmer awarded OBE in Queen’s Birthday Honours

CLIA UK & Ireland managing director Andy Harmer has been awarded an OBE in the Queen’s Birthday Honours List.

He has received the honour for services to the maritime sector and his part in the cruise industry’s efforts to restart operations during the pandemic.

Harmer said: “I’m thrilled and very grateful to receive this recognition. It has been an incredibly challenging few years for everyone in our sector and the way we have all worked together to overcome such enormous challenges has been inspiring.

“I feel privileged every day to work for an industry that employs people from all over the world, people of all backgrounds who are passionate about what they do, creating unforgettable travel experiences.”

A CLIA spokesperson added: “We are delighted to congratulate our colleague Andy Harmer on his award of an OBE in the Queen’s Birthday Honours for services to the maritime sector.

“Andy has worked within the travel industry for more than 24 years, including several years as a travel agent.

“As managing director of CLIA UK & Ireland, Andy most recently spearheaded efforts during the pandemic to bring people together from across the transport, tourism, and maritime sectors to support the safe resumption of cruising.”

CLIA president and CEO Kelly Craighead also sent her congratulations, adding: “We send our warmest congratulations to our colleague Andy Harmer on receiving an OBE for services to the maritime sector.

“During the pandemic, Andy’s tireless commitment, combined with his collaborative and positive approach, set a fantastic example, and showed our industry at its best.”
