Carnival Cruise Line renames ship as part of bow-to-stern makeover

Carnival Cruise Line has announced the next round of ship restart plans

Carnival Cruise Line has announced the renaming of Carnival Victory to Carnival Radiance.

The ship is in the final stages of a $200 million bow-to-stern renovation. Work is taking place in Cadiz, Spain.

Carnival Radiance is scheduled to depart on 18 October for a seven-week journey to her homeport in Long Beach, California, with stops in Miami and a transit of the Panama Canal along the way.

On 13 December 2021, Carnival Radiance will make it Southern California debut, kicking off a year-round schedule of three and four-day cruises to Baja Mexico from the Long Beach Cruise Terminal.

On this route, three-day cruises will depart Fridays and visit Ensenada, Mexico, while four-day cruises will sail on Mondays, calling at Ensenada and Catalina Island.

The name change comes after the line announced the senior leadership team for the ship back in 2020.

Carnival Radiance is the third in the line’s Sunshine-class series and joins Carnival Miracle – which will reposition to Long Beach on 27 September – and Carnival Panorama, both of which will operate voyages to Mexico.

Carnival Cruise Line president Christine Duffy said: “The transformation of Carnival Victory has been in the works for quite some time but we’re delighted that she can now be officially be called Carnival Radiance – the newest member of our fleet.

Carnival Radiance features all of our most popular spaces and provides a truly unique and exciting vacation option for the Southern California short cruise market.”

A naming ceremony will be held when Carnival Radiance arrives in Long Beach, with additional details to be announced in the near future.

Carnival stated that Carnival Radiance will feature new dining choices such as the Cucina del Capitano, as well as expanded entertainment venues like the multi-purpose Liquid Lounge and “one of the largest and most luxurious Cloud 9 Spas at sea”.
