Craig Upshall is leaving Rocky Mountaineer to join expedition cruise specialists Aurora Expeditions as UK & Europe sales director.
After seven years as Europe, Middle East, India and Africa business manager for Rocky Mountaineer, Upshall, who has previously worked for Royal Caribbean Cruise Line and Island Cruises, will bring over 20 years of experience to his new role – which he starts next month alongside new North America sales director, Edith Beaudoin.
Talking to Cruise Trade News about his new appointment, Upshall spoke of his excitement about returning to the cruise industry: “I’m raring to go. I’ve been out of cruise for about eight years now and I’m excited to get to grips with the new opportunities, different destinations and a different form of transport.
“Expedition cruising is on the rise and it’s a good place to be. I liked the concept of what Aurora do in terms of the small ship, and the intimate, personalised service they offer – it’s similar in many ways to where I’ve come from.”
When asked what Aurora Expeditions needs to do to grow their UK operations, Upshall acknowledged that work has to be done to build the brand’s presence: “At the moment, Aurora is a bit of an unknown quantity – people may have heard of us but don’t quite know what we do – so success will be bringing the brand into the forefront of both agent’s and consumer’s minds.
“The opportunity to grow the UK/European market is what attracted me to the role and the challenge is to build the brand and fill the ships in this part of the world.”
