American Cruise Lines places order for seven new-build ships

American Cruise Lines new ships June 2024

American Cruise Lines has placed an order for seven new-build vessels, all of which are scheduled for delivery before the end of 2026

The new additions include six Project Blue series vessels and a new river ship, which will be similar to its sister ships with several new design elements.

Three of the seven new vessels on order, which are being built in Chesapeake, are yet to be named and additional details about each will be announced over the summer.

Domestic cruise sector ‘healthiest it has ever been’

“The domestic cruise industry is the healthiest it has ever been,” said Charles Robertson, president and chief executive of American Cruise Lines.

“Demand for modern river products, new small ships, and unique exploration in the USA continues to grow. That demand is powered by destinations brimming with history and ships that provide the best onboard experience in the world.”

The company plans to operate 21 small ships in 2025, and 24 ships in 2026, all sailing US itineraries along rivers and coasts.

Last year the American company boosted its river fleet with the additions of American Jazz and American Serenade.

Julia Letlow, US Representative for Louisiana’s fifth congressional district, christened American Serenade in Vidalia, LA, on the Mississippi river.
