The launch of Princess Cruises’ new ship Enchanted Princess has been postponed, the cruise line has confirmed.

The delivery of the new 3,660-passenger Enchanted Princess has been delayed due to the shipyard closures in Italy as a result of the global coronavirus pandemic.

The naming ceremony, which was due to take place in Southampton on 30 June, has been cancelled, along with all voyages until 31 July.

A Princess Cruises spokesperson said:

“Princess Cruises confirms that the delivery of Enchanted Princess is delayed. A new delivery date has not been determined since the Fincantieri yard in Monfalcone, Italy remains closed. Voyages through July 31 have been cancelled.

“The delivery delay is due to the country-wide lockdown imposed by the Italian government and public health officials in response to the covid-19 outbreak.

“The naming ceremony scheduled to take place in Southampton on June 30 has been cancelled. Inaugural activities are under review in conjunction with changes to the ship deployment.”

This announcement comes following the news that Princess Cruises has extended its voluntary pause of global ship operations until 30 June 2020, in response to the recent announcement from the United States Centers for Disease Control (CDC), which last Thursday extended its no sail order for at least 100 days.
