Riviera Travel: On ‘cloud nine’ following Wave Awards success

Riviera Travel head of commercial partnerships Vicky Billing reflects on the operator’s success at the Wave Awards 2023, which took place on 13 November.

How did it feel to win four awards at the 2023 Wave Awards?

It feels incredible. You always hope to win at an awards event, but you never dare to dream that you will win four awards.

We are still pinching ourselves and are just so extremely grateful. We are so thankful to the amazing industry experts and consumers who voted for us.

You scooped the special Grand Prix award – what’s your reaction to that?

We are still on cloud nine with this one. I remember sitting at the table thinking about what an incredible award it is and imagine winning it; then all of a sudden, our name was up on screen.

We feely truly blessed and know that every employee at Riviera feels the same. We want to do the right thing and provide only the best product and service for both our guests and trade.

Why do you think you were so successful on the night?

First, the hard work across the Riviera Travel team. We really do care so much across all departments.

We are obsessed about travel excellence and we never stop listening and learning from both our customers and agent partners. We live and breathe our company values and try to relate that back to everything we do. 

How important are awards such as these for your work with the trade and attracting more guests to book with Riviera Travel?

Incredibly important. It builds trust in both the brand and our Riviera team. What’s more, it solidifies everything that we communicate to our agents and customers. As the saying goes, the proof is in the pudding.

How do you intend to build on these achievements moving forward?

We have to constantly evolve and be true to our values. We can’t stop or take anything for granted. There is a lot of competition out there and we need to stay ahead of the pack.

This is one of the reasons we set up our agent engagement committee and send out surveys. It’s vital we get feedback from our agent partners and we will always try our best to listen and then deliver.

Next year is your 40th anniversary – what do you have planned to celebrate that milestone?

We are super excited and we have plenty in the pipeline, including a massive agent incentive as well as a customer incentive that will be available through agent bookings. All will be revealed very soon.
